Inducting

Today I get my MBBS
After studying for years
Amidst many sleepless nights
And late night hunger cramps
For a 270 units medical course

Anatomy taught us bones structure
Physiology emphasis on body function
Medicine is a course of high honour
After going through some hard torture
With no rest like a day old fetus

My colleagues will be my family
Our struggles will be my memory
Which are well carved in my diary
Our love to heal is till eternity
Caring for ourselves with no hard feelings

We place our teachers in high esteem
Who took us as child and not as apprentices
From class to personal life teachings
To be doctors with good clinical skills
In px management and not just history taking

All of the teachings we highly appreciate
May we never be an ingrate
May we observe the teachings of hippocrates
Our fore father in medicine who is late
May you go higher without delay

My heart sober
My brain tells it not to bother
My colleagues who we ain't now together
Pls keep fighting cos you are soldier
We pray you all ace in life endeavours

Unilorin is now my alma mater
Since I joined the association of alumni
Of a school that is better by far
That taught us learning and character
Like salt in stew, it makes our life better

May my legs lead me home
When I get lost abode
On the journey of no return
Under circumstances with zero reform
It's not byebye but see you again.

APONBEPORE...an encounter

Episode One - By Acetyl APONBEPORE is a yoruba pynegyry which literally means a lady whose complexion looks like the colour of palm oil; mostly used for a beauty. Left to me and some other active guys, our sense of visions are used in stylishly assessing the beauty of anything that passes satisfying our limbic system of emotions. It was on a very busy Monday morning when the school just began a new academic session. As freshers, we were seated calmly at the 200- seater geology lecture theatre (GLT) awaiting the arrival of Mrs Okorie - an old, persuasive, English lecturer in her late 50s who always used half of the time to call attendance and the other half to make us read from the GNS textbook. After few minutes before the arrival of the lecturer, a young lady in her 20s walked in through the main door which was just at my 10 o' clock. What a beauty to be amazed, it left me looking skeptical wondering if such being had ever been created. She represented a perfect icon ...

A Story of Betrayal, Àfọ̀njá.

A story of betrayal -  'How the Fulani's  betrayed Afonja, the Are-Ona-Kakanfo of Yoruba land to conquer Ilorin. Pic 1 : Shehu Alimi Ilorin was a Yoruba town which was originally used as a military outpost by the Alaafin, the  supreme ruler of the old Oyo empire (Oyo-Ile). At the period of creation, Ilorin was administered by Afonja, the sixth Are-Ona-Kakanfo of the Oyo army. Pic 2 : Àfònjá It was from this outpost that Afonja carried out military duty's for the then Alaafin named Aole, also called Arogangan (translated as the mean one). Aole reigned between 1789 and 1796. It was during this period that Shehu Alimi, a Fulani cleric, arrived Ilorin with some of his tribesmen and were all welcomed and hosted by Afonja. Pic 3: Alaafin Aole After a while, conflict broke out between Alaafin Aole and  Afonja. Alaafin Aole ordered Afonja to attack a town named Iwere-Ile which to Afonja was a suicidal mission. He adamantly refused be...
